The Biome Hive
Nature knows how to organise at scale. Through innovation, we replicate the living system of the hive and drive it towards impact at scale.
Every organism has a role to play in the ecosystem and the Biome Hive are the connective tissue and delivery engine of the Project Biome ecosystem.
A mandate to drive impact at scale through radical collaboration, connection & innovation.
We Operate on a Living Systems Principle
Nature already knows how to organise at scale.
Inspired by the dynamics of a bee colony — decentralised, self-organising, collectively intelligent — the Biome Hive operates in the exact same way across a series of bioregions, inspiring them to work collectively, self organise and utilise each others strengths to create impact at scale.
Whether that is to restore watersheds, regenerate indigenous plants or enrich soil. Each bioregion is autonomous, yet deeply connected through a mycelial web. The Biome Hive acts to reconnect bioregions through shared services & resources, knowledge toward a regenerative mission.
The Hive does not act alone
It activates an entire ecosystem.

Impact Vision
We measure our impact according to 4 key dimensions. A bioregion is so much more than simply a project, but an entire ecosystem of delicate fabrics that when stitched together into a tapestry, it weaves a beautiful lattice of place, people, land & opportunity. We have made this our mission for the next 5 years to nurture the opportunities already in the landscape through radical collaboration.
Environmental
- · Restore 100,000+ hectares of degraded landscapes and ecological corridors.
- · Increase biodiversity and carbon sequestration through large-scale rewilding and restoration.
Social & Economic
- · Generate 10,000+ community-based employment opportunities in restoration, agroecology and enterprise development.
- · Strengthen local economies through regenerative agriculture, women-led initiatives, and smallholder market access.
Knowledge & Governance
- · Creating a Southern African knowledge hub linking policy, science, and practice.
- · Establish decentralised governance and bioregional coordination models to scale systemic impact.
Finance & Investment
- · Mobilise blended finance from public, private, and philanthropic sources to unlock $50M+ over five years.
- · Enable sustainable revenue streams via regenerative enterprise, ecosystem services, and market access.
5-Year Portfolio
17 Place-Based Initiatives on one unified regenerative mission. All doing their bit to push the needle on regenerative impact. How we unify this impact is through acting as the connective tissue to mobilise these incredible initiatives and organisations towards collective impact. Through our connective tissue approach our aim to support reconnection to people, place & resources.

Operating more like a hive than a machine.
Just as a hive, and the ecosystem around it, cannot function without bees, the Biome Hive cannot thrive in isolation. Our theory of change centres humans and connection at the heart of the Biome Hive.
This is how we humanise the experience. Impact metrics are more than numbers on a spreadsheet; they’re the lives of people. Restoration is more than planting a tree; it’s an entire ecosystem we’re creating; a nest, a burrow. Each node of existence flows into the next. Only through investment does this become more than a project; it becomes a living, breathing system.
We believe the flow of money is the catalyst for impact at scale, and that a single project funding stream cannot support the ecosystem we are trying to create. That’s why we rely on a blended finance model to deliver our impact at scale.
Philanthropic, public and private capital de-risked and geared toward rewilding, regeneration and reconnection weave together to drive incredible change.
Shared resources have always been part of the tapestry within a landscape. The key is reducing overheads through shared resources and radical collaboration; inspiring the work of empowerment and eliminating the dependency model that communities and organisations have long relied on.
The power of innovation makes so much of this trackable. Platforms like Backstory let us witness the emergence of organic farmers across a region, while helping customers find local, organic farmers near them.
None of this is possible without money that flows; we attach so many water-based terms to money, and at Project Biome, we see money in exactly the same way. When we channel the flow of money through the Biome Flow Fund to organisations and projects enacting our connective tissue, successful impact becomes inevitable.
We are not building programs.
We are building the conditions for life to thrive.

Catalyse the Regenerative Era.
